March Break - Upper Camp Program
(Grades 6,7,8 & 9)
Campers will have the opportunity to choose an Arts Major, one arts discipline to concentrate on during their week at camp. There are four Major choices, each representing one of the arts disciplines: music, dance, theatre and visual arts. Campers attend their Major every morning for three hours. Arts Majors are taught by Arts Program Specialists who are professionals with considerable experience in their field.
In addition to Majors, Upper Campers will enjoy hobbies, sports and leadership games throughout the afternoon. Click here for more information on additional camp activities.
Campers in Upper Camp are divided into "cabin" groups, based on their arts major choice, each with one counsellor to supervise them throughout the day.
MAJOR CHOICES:
This major is perfect for the performer who loves musical theatre. Campers will get a chance to work on a group number from a popular musical! Over the course of the week we will cover vocal technique, vocal performance, song analysis, acting and basic choreography. Come see what it takes to be Broadway Bound! Instructor: Nicky Phillips
"Pop Jazz" lies somewhere between traditional jazz and hip hop dance. Campers will focus on honing jazz technique, and then work on infusing these skills into funky, cutting-edge, short pieces of choreography. Campers will learn choreography similar to that seen in music videos by such artists as Lady Gaga, Beyonce, and Britney Spears. Get ready to become a true dance diva!
Are you ready for your close-up? Come and act for the camera! Learn terminology, tricks of the trade and have fun performing short scenes from various t.v. shows and commercials. We'll work on making your acting natural and compelling while focusing on the relationship between the performer and the camera.
In this major you will learn all about how to use paint in new and interesting ways. We will focus on colours, textures and building layers to create a unique type of landscape that is nothing like you have ever seen before. Come prepared to be creative and add your own twist to a traditional technique!
